Replace the right items in the pack
Hand flares, parachute rockets and orange smoke signals do different jobs. When renewing equipment, list each item and quantity from the vessel’s required inventory. A total number of flares leaves the team guessing which signals you need.
Line-throwing equipment is a separate purchase. A complete appliance, a body with line and a replacement rocket are different items. Include the existing model if you are ordering a component, so the enquiry identifies the compatible equipment.
Signals and line-throwing equipment
Red hand flares
Hand-held visual signals used to pinpoint a position at short range by day or night.
Specify the exact product, quantity and required approval. Similar housings do not establish the same specification.
Parachute rockets & orange smoke
A red parachute rocket carries a visible signal aloft. Orange smoke marks a position in daylight; it is not a night-time light signal.
List rockets and smoke signals separately, using the vessel’s specified quantities and product standard.
Line throwers
A line-throwing appliance passes a line rather than providing the same function as a visual distress flare.
State whether you need the complete appliance or replacement components. Comet lists its Linethrower 250, body-and-line unit and replacement rocket separately.

How many flares should I order?
Use the inventory required for your vessel and operating context. This page does not set statutory quantities. Give us the type and quantity of each item from the vessel’s specification or survey list.
Is a replacement rocket a complete line thrower?
No. Comet’s replacement rocket is a component for the compatible body-and-line container. Name the existing model and specify complete equipment or replacement parts.
Can I request a particular remaining shelf life?
Yes. State the remaining shelf life your vessel requires in the enquiry. Catalogue images or listings do not establish the expiry dates of the items that will be supplied.
What should I do with expired or damaged signals?
Ask for the appropriate local disposal route before moving or handing over the equipment. Do not treat pyrotechnics as ordinary waste or test-fire them to check condition. Our Comet identification guide explains the records and manufacturer guidance to consult.
