Founded in 2015 by experienced maritime professionals, The Safety Pelican was created to expand the safety services available to the island's maritime community—and help Sint Maarten grow as a regional maritime hub.
The Safety Pelican began in 2015 with a practical observation from a group of experienced maritime professionals: Sint Maarten welcomed vessels from across the Caribbean and beyond, but too much essential safety work still had to be coordinated away from the island. Equipment travelled when it should have been working, schedules became harder to protect and local crews had fewer specialist services close at hand. The founders set out to change that.
They built a service station around the real rhythm of maritime operations. Liferafts, extinguishers, emergency beacons and pressure cylinders all carry identities, dates and manufacturer requirements; every item removed from a vessel also creates a deadline for getting it safely back aboard. That is why our work begins with clear intake information and ends with equipment and records checked together—not simply with a new sticker on a cylinder or canister.
Our workshop is organised for that responsibility, with dedicated areas for equipment intake, liferaft service, lifting, cylinder work and documentation. Manufacturer authorisation matters because procedures, parts, tests and certificates follow the exact make and model. We confirm scope unit by unit and plan the handover around the vessel's operation, survey and sailing window.
The larger mission reaches beyond one service job. We want captains, engineers, owners and fleet managers to be able to treat Sint Maarten as a dependable home for serious maritime work. Every capability developed on the island keeps more knowledge, skilled employment and operational value in the region. Step by step, that strengthens Sint Maarten's position as a regional maritime hub: a place where vessels can arrive, complete critical work properly and return to sea with confidence.
The Safety Pelican focuses on servicing and liferaft rentals rather than equipment sales. When a risk assessment or inspection shows that new equipment is needed, supply is handled through The Marine Store by SM Caribbean. Keeping those roles clear lets our station stay focused on competent service, honest records and long-term readiness.
